In August of 2011, a pilot project was launched to determine the viability of the Cayo Outdoor Theatre Project. During this pilot period, International Films were screened once weekly in a public parking lot in the centre of San Ignacio Town. La Poderosa III received cooperation from the San Ignacio House of Culture, Pandy’s Show, Mo’Time Furniture Rentals, and The Belize Bank Ltd., who were able to provide a projector, PA System, chairs, and a venue, respectively.
The theatre’s popularity grew with every screening and attendees expressed their gratitude for having such a service available to them. After the screenings, many people also engaged in conversations related to themes revealed within the films.
Unfortunately, due to the inability to secure the projector, PA system and chairs, La Poderosa III encountered several obstacles inhibiting our ability to provide consistent and reliable showtimes after this pilot period.
In an effort to maintain consistency and reliability, increase attendance, and expand our free service to local schools, we at La Poderosa III believe it is necessary acquire a PA System and projector of our own.
